ME310 PORTO

Industry Exchange Project 2016 | MarianaSantos©

ME310 Porto is an interdisciplinary which represents a true integration between engineering, business sciences and design. The course focuses on teaching students the innovation methods and processes needed for the designers, engineers and innovation project managers of the future. At the end of the course, students acquire the skills required to be global innovation leaders.

At ME310 Porto, students work in teams for 9 months on innovative challenges proposed by multinational companies, learning and applying the "Stanford / IDEO" design thinking process. Students develop a product to prototype, test, and iterate to solve real-world design challenges for partner companies. Through projects, students go through an intensive and iterative process of Need Finding, brainstorming, and fast prototyping to create and develop new product concepts. Business engagement provides the key reality to teams in order to improve their innovation skills.  In the end, teams deliver prototypes as proof of concept, along with detailed documentation that not only captures the essence of design but also the learning process that led to the ideas.

All teams at the ME310 Porto Graduate Program collaborate with other teams from foreign countries during the course. The partnership adds diversity to the project and students have the opportunity to experience true global collaboration. The final prototypes are usually presented at Stanford Design EXPE in June at Stanford University in the heart of Silicon Valley.

ME310 is all hands-on, all the time.
